VION: the number one reliable partner in the food chain

As the trusted partner in the food chain, VION wants to anticipate and fulfil customer and consumer needs with high-quality food and ingredients of an agricultural origin.

VION wants to achieve this through a well-balanced and sustainable strategy. Passion for Better Food is VION’s motto. Healthy and safe products have to comply with the highest safety and quality standards.

Balancing the future, strategic vision 2010-2015

In 2010, VION presented a new strategic vision for the period 2010-2015: Balancing the Future. Finding a new balance follows on after the company’s expansion strategy. After years of increasing scale and national and international Profileacquisitions, we have entered a period in which quality and innovation are leading.

VION has built healthy positions in its markets. Those markets are now asking for added value in the form of tasty, safe and healthy products that have been produced sustainably and with an eye to animal welfare. Products and markets are developed by VION in collaboration with our customers, and partnerships with those customers (retailers, foodservice, and industry) are crucial to VION. Product leadership, operational excellence, and sustainability support this strategy of customer intimacy.

Value creation and sustainability

Balancing the Future and finding the right balance not only applies to VION’s strategic vision. It also applies to the use of raw materials, energy, and water, and to work processes and production methods. The combination of its two core activities – Food and Ingredients – has enabled VION Food Group to adopt a unique position. VION Ingredients is fully equipped for processing and adding value to the by- products, such as fats, intestines, skins, blood and bones, generated in the meat processing companies of VION Food.

And VION Food Group has even managed to close the loop where energy consumption and production are concerned. VION produces bioenergy from its own raw materials, and uses this to meet some of the energy demands of its own production sites.

VION wants to make an active contribution to the public debate about such matters as public health, animal welfare, animal health, and the environment. Together with industry and community organisations, VION is trying to find solutions and identify opportunities to create continuity and support. There are many challenges to be addressed.

VION is aiming for a long-term view

VION’s aim is to further optimise its position as a leading food and ingredients company. For this it takes a long-term view, based on consumer understanding and market insight.

In the next few years, VION Food will focus on strengthening and refining its positions in its three home markets (the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom) through high standards and consumer-focused products. In addition, VION Food will seek to further improve its export markets. In 2011, Oerlemans Foods will aim to develop the added value of deep-frozen vegetables, fruit and potato products, primarily in the retail and foodservice markets.

VION Ingredients aims to enhance the utilisation of by- products, and seeks to grow outside its traditional home markets. The strong positions in the gelatine and protein markets will be expanded further. Banner works to further improve its results and expand its global industry leadership.
