Willie Black confirmed as a London 2012 Olympic Torchbearer

VION is proud to announce that Willie Black, an ICT Operations Analyst based at its UK Head Office in Livingston, will be running as a Torchbearer in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.  Willie was nominated through the Bank of Scotland campaign and has been selected because, after successfully battling a rare blood disorder, he has devoted a huge amount of time and effort to supporting Anthony Nolan – the charity that saved his life.  A recent example of this saw Willie take an active role in the planning and organisation of its Edinburgh Daisy Ball last year, which helped raise over £25,000 for the charity.

Willie will be running in Kinross on 13th June.

Willie said: “I would like to thank all the people who nominated me, and am overwhelmed that I’ve been chosen to be part of such a priceless experience!

It goes without saying that I’m hugely excited about being part of the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.”

Alasdair Cox, Director of Corporate Affairs for VION, commented: “We are delighted Willie has been chosen to carry the Olympic Torch. He thoroughly deserves the honour and I know he’ll do VION proud as part of the torch relay team.”

Willie was nominated through Bank of Scotland, Presenting Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

The 70 day Olympic Torch Relay will start at Land’s End, Cornwall on the morning of 19 May 2012. On leaving Land’s End, the Olympic Flame will travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK giving thousands of communities and individuals their moment to shine as the Olympic Flame comes to a place near them. The Olympic Flame will arrive at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July 2012 for the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, signifying the official start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
