World Steak Challenge – Vion wins two gold and five silver

Dublin, 11.11.2021 – The competition was put on hold last year, but now the time had finally come: top chefs, butchers, food journalists and selected experts were the jurors at the most demanding meat challenge in the world, the WSC, which took place in the Irish capital Dublin.

Competing at the World Steak Challenge: Vion and its premium beef brand GOLDBEEF. It had to convince the jury in numerous blind taste tests according to appearance, aroma, tenderness, taste, and succulence against competitors from 20+ countries. And the results? – “Simply fantastic”, says Willi Habres, Beef Sales Director at Vion, whose GOLDBEEF “was able to build on the great results from last year with two gold and five silver medals.”

Before the results could be confirmed, the jury first had to judge hundreds of steaks, both raw and grilled. The WSC acts as a benchmark for the best beef in the world. Vion was awarded gold medals for the GOLDBEEF rib-eye and the GOLDBEEF dry-aged Simmental sirloin. These are left to mature on the bone for at least 30 days in special temperature-controlled rooms to achieve a light and even marble. Silver was awarded in all categories: rib-eye, fillet, and sirloin from the Holstein Frisian und MRIJ cattle breeds.

“This outcome is a great accolade for the consistent high-quality of our premium beef brand GOLDBEEF. “We’re especially happy that we performed well across all categories with different beef breeds from various Vion production locations. This proves to us that our umbrella brand GOLDBEEF fulfils the highest international standards.”
