Vion Food invests € 4 million in location Groenlo
Boxtel, 18 June 2015 – Vion Food has today announced that it will invest € 4 million in its production location in Groenlo. The investment is part of a larger programme that is designed to optimise the footprint. This programme will reduce the number of production locations in The Netherlands and Germany, and will provide for the modernisation of the other production locations. All activities related to organic pork and Good Farming Star will be concentrated in Groenlo.
Frans Stortelder, Chief Operating Officer Vion Pork “The investment in our production location in Groenlo will enable us to work in a more efficient and flexible manner. This will benefit our focus on optimising the value of the pigs that we process. We are seeing a strong growth in the demand for organic pork, and the sales of our Good Farming Star concept are developing well. We want to exploit this further and will concentrate all activities from slaughter up to and including the consumer packing in Groenlo.”
This investment follows the optimisation of the network of production locations ( footprint) of Vion Food which had been announced previously. This optimisation process consists on the one hand of closing a number of locations and the sale of (smaller) locations, and on the other hand of investing in various production locations. In August of last year a significant investment of € 25 million in our production locations in Southern Germany was announced, and this investment in the Groenlo site is the next step in the optimisation programme.
Vion has announced it will focus its policies primarily on valorisation (optimal value creation of livestock processed by Vion Food) and on balancing production with demands from domestic markets and from export markets such as China, America, Japan, Korea and Australia.
