Vion Pork introduces new concept: Tomahawk
Robust barbecue product for the international retail market
Boxtel, 26 April 2018 – Vion Pork’s latest product is an experience in the shape of a robust barbecue product: Tomahawk. The Tomahawk will be introduced towards international retailers in various European countries, starting from the first week of May 2018. Vion will offer this product under its own brand name. At the trade fairs in Denmark, Spain and Italy, where Vion will be present this spring, the Tomahawk will have a prominent position in the stand as a part of the barbecue range.
The already marinated Tomahawk is available in three flavours: Herbs de Provence, Sweet & Smokey and Hot & Spicy, and weighs between 300 and 400 grams. The tasty pork on the bone is shaped like a tomahawk.
Maiko van der Meer, Chief Commercial Officer at Vion Pork: “Our Vion Consumer Insights show that, on the one hand, consumers opt for convenience when buying meat products and on the other, there is a trend among consumers to choose premium concepts based on taste experience and the perception of quality. The Tomahawk combines these trends. It is a robust, easy to prepare quality product for the barbecue.”
The Tomahawk will be sold Europe-wide under our own brand name. The design and sleeve create a premium appearance. “It will be launched starting from the first week of May, close to the summer season. The new product is a specialty. Barbecuing is popular,” says Mr Van der Meer. “It is an emotional event: when it’s sunny weather, people invite friends over for a tasty meal. They want to impress with a robust and tasty piece of meat. Tomahawk offers the consumer a true indulgence experience.”
